October...Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is the month designated for breast cancer awareness! Today AMWA had a bake sale at school to try and raise money for breast cancer research and because the students had class--Melinda and I were asked to help with the sale. It was amazing how many things can be made pink--we had pink lemondade, pink cupcakes, cookies with pink icing, blondie brownies (dyed pink), pink cheesecake, and the list goes on and on.
The sale started at 7:30am and ended at 12:30pm--and it was so much fun! We had so many people donating to the cause and when we had a little downtime, we were putting pink icing on anything and everything! Little pink ribbons were our specialty by the end of the day!

Students, professors, and faculty were really supportive and all types of donations were made. Donations as much as $130 or as small as $1 were given to the cause...anything helps! Because of all the donations, AMWA met their goal of $1,000 to donate to breast cancer research....YAY!

After being surrounded by tons of pink goodies, I realized how important informing women (and men) the importance of routine breast examinations and early detection are. No one enjoys mammograms or examinations, but it saves lives!! So, don't be a sucker and feel your boobs!
