I'll Be Home For Christmas

Sorry about the corny title! Given that Christmas is in 9 days, I just couldn't resist. A few days ago I posted that we might not be able to fly home for Christmas and a few days ago we made the final decision. At the hospital Jason gets one week off for Christmas--either the week before or the week after. He requested the week after and we thought the week he requested off was pretty much a guarantee. Well, he was granted his time off but between October, when he requested off and purchased the flight, to December he received a few more interview offers.
Well instead of missing so much work(one week for his Salt Lake City/Brooklyn interviews AND one week for Christmas) during his Neurology rotation, he decided not to push his luck. If he doesn't have a set number of clinical weeks completed, then he wouldn't be able to graduate. He'll just count this week as his "Christmas" week and stay and work for the next three consecutive weeks.
I knew that there might be a possibility that we would have to cancel our flights that we had booked but it was definitely more difficult to hit the "cancel" button online. I think I sat and stared at the button for half my morning until I accepted the fact that we wouldn't be going home for Christmas. This caused my day to be a little less than pleasant...I'm such a big baby.
I made it Facebook official and then I called all of our family and friends that was anticipating us next week and broke the news.
I'm sure you've all heard the saying "home is where the heart is" and I plan on really focusing on that this Christmas. I definitely miss my family back home but I couldn't imagine having Christmas without Jason, or my pups for that matter.
We'll be spending Christmas with Jason's parents in Ventura...probably our last holiday with them for awhile so we'll need to make it special. I'm so glad that we have family within driving distance, especially during the Christmas season.
So this Christmas the song holds true....I'll be "home" for Christmas!

I am wondering if Jason has a sister...
