Lessons In English

  • dum dum=pacifier
  • lift=elevator
  • pavement=sidewalk
  • busking=begging for money
  • queue=line (at a restaurant or grocery store)
  • allight=wait
  • The "W" is left off or out of most of their words. For example, Greenwich is pronounced Grinich; Fenwicks department store is pronounced Fenicks; Warwick is pronounced Warick
  • telly=cellphone
**We've enjoyed our time in England and I've loved learning new terms for words that we use back in the states. I hope you've enjoyed reading 'Lessons In English' as much as I've loved listening intently to different conversations, writing down all the different words and rushing home to put them in a blog.
