This weekend, around all the packing, we had a few outings that got us out of the house and gave us a much needed break. Saturday night we went to dinner with some friends and then headed to the bowling alley. Unfortunately, the bowling alley was insanely busy so we opted for putt putt golf at Monster Golf. You can read about our first trip to Monster Golf here. We had such a fun time laughing and dancing around to the music. I'm pretty bummed that I didn't think to get a group picture but I did manage to get one of me and the hubby.
At the end of the night, we said our goodbyes and hugged our friends. We hated saying goodbye to our friends that have experienced this journey with us but we left hopeful that we would see them again.
Sunday was an extra special day for me! Ms. Ruth, my all-time favorite student, was participating at the 2nd Annual Bakersfield African American Read-In. She invited the office to go and listen to her...I knew that I had to go and listen to her! She talked about our organization and how much we help her and how much we mean to her. A lot of the people that attended wore traditional African wear and I thought Ms. Ruth was the best dressed one there.
She did such a good job encouraging people to come to our organization if they need help. My favorite line that she used was "Stop being embarrassed for something that you have the chance to change. Get out of the darkness and come into the light."
She was beaming throughout the rest of the day. I'm so glad that I went and supported Ms. Ruth at the Read-In. She will be one person that I never forget...she has changed my heart forever.
