Mid-Week Randoms

This week has been pretty uneventful (other than a few nights of timing contractions) but I did manage to get a few sweet pictures of my sweet little girl.
  • Amelia has been so into her Daddy lately and the other evening, she crawled up on his lap and wanted to watch the trailer of Despicable Me 2. They looked so sweet together!
  • Tuesday around nap time, I got a text from Ms. B. She said that Amelia took a nap on her fold out couch for the first time. I think she managed to lay down without a fuss and she looked so dang cute. I literally was speechless when I opened the picture text...I felt like I needed a brown paper bag and a tissue. Where the heck did my baby go and who replaced her with a big girl that sleeps on fold out couches?
  • The contraction timer app has been downloaded and has actually been put to use. Contractions aren't consistent but they are starting to get intense and frequent during different times throughout the day. Everything has been packed, cleaned and we are ready (or as ready as we can get) for our little man's arrival.
  • Amelia is doing so many big things...she is always surprising me! She was able to stack her blocks 4 high without any assistance this morning. She hasn't quite figured out that she needs to put the bigger blocks on the bottom and gradually go smaller but she managed to get the hang of it for a little bit.
  • Jason was originally scheduled to be 1.5-2 hours away for September 15th-October 15th doing an OB/GYN rotation at another hospital where he would be introduced to more cases and where he would be allowed to have a little more "freedom". Thank goodness his director noticed this was right around my due date so she changed up his schedule so he will be there in October and into November so he can be in Hershey for the delivery.
  • Tomorrow morning I'm headed to Starbucks for my first PUMPKIN SPICE STEAMER (I don't like coffee) and I'm so excited about it!!  Fall is so close...yippee!

What We Did This Weekend...

*We opened mail from Auntie E...a singing card complete with a fruit roll up for my big girl. Amelia had to go poo poo and she ran to the bathroom, sat down on her potty and went poo poo on the big girl potty. The big girl loved getting her mail!
*We had funfetti birthday pancakes for Amelia on her 18 month birthday. She got one and a half candles in her pancakes, which she loved to try to blow out, and she got us all singing Happy Birthday to her.

*We broke out the paint and paintbrushes for an early morning craft session. I've been wanting Amelia to make something for Barrett's room and a painting was perfect! Once I hang it up, I'll get a picture of it on his wall.

*We went and explored the Caverns, which are super close to the house. We needed to get out of the house and we thought some animals and a playground would be the perfect outing. Amelia loved the goats, the chickens and the sheep but I think she liked holding on to the fence by herself (Jason was super close) the best.

*We did a lot of back porch sitting, grilling, relaxing, cleaning and baby loving. Our family time is so important to us and we're making it a priority...love our little family!

Bump Updates: Week 36

How far along: 36 weeks on Sunday, August, 25th, 2013
How big is baby: The size of a Crenshaw melon

Weight gain/loss: I've gained a total of 20.2 pounds, as of August 16th. I'm staying right on track with gaining a pound a week. Next weigh-in is Friday at my next appointment.
Sleep: Sleep??  What sleep?  Man, I totally forgot how uncomfortable and rough sleeping is during the last month of pregnancy. I've woke up a couple of times and slept in the chair and that's been a little bit better. My body is definitely preparing me for a newborn and very little sleep.
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: Still snacking constantly and trying to stay away from anything that might give me heartburn. The past week the heartburn has been crazy!
Movement: YES!  He's moving so much and Amelia loves when she can feel him. She will even try to push on my belly to get him to move...she's in love already!
What I'm loving: That the hospital bag is packed and we've started to get the house ready with his bottles, his swing, bassinet, etc. Our house looks so much smaller now that it's full of Amelia's stuff and Barrett's things.
What I'm looking forward to: The next 4 weeks of preparation (mentally and physically) for our new little man. I feel like we still have so much to do but can't help but be anxious to have him here in our arms, safe and sound.
Best moment of the week: Having Amelia come up without me prompting her to kiss the baby...over and over again.
How I'm feeling: I'm feeling a little rough. I actually timed out some contractions this past weekend because the contractions were intense and they were pretty close together. Thank goodness, they stopped after about 45 minutes but it made me realize that I need to try and rest when I can.

Mid-Week Randoms

  • We got a huge package from Amelia's cousin, Lexie, this week and it was filled with clothes, shoes and a few dress up things. Amelia was instantly drawn to a bathing suit, rubber boots and a cooking outfit complete with a chefs hat, apron and pot holders. She wanted to put all the different outfits on...she's so dang cute!

  • In 2 days, we will have an 18 month old. How crazy is that?! I never thought that she'd fit into those "bigger" clothes and now I've boxed up those "bigger" clothes because they no longer fit her. Our little lady is just shy of a year and half...time needs to slow down!

  • The internet at work was down this morning so I got to work from home until noon. It was so nice spending the morning with my loves!  We went on a walk and even decided to make a pit stop at the park before we headed home.

  • I have some comp time that has accumulated after some big events so I'm taking Friday off of work to spend the day with Jason, just the two of us. Right now, we've agreed that we'll head to Philadelphia for the day. Philly cheesesteak and Liberty Bell...here we come!

  • Nannie and Jason took Amelia to HersheyPark today (after I went into work) and I loved getting pictures of their day. I was a little envious to not be there with them but I couldn't help but smile when I looked through the pictures from their day.

  • We only have 4 weeks (give or take) of our family of three, plus Nannie, and I think it's starting to hit home. We're trying to soak up this time with Amelia right now and we often end up saying how we'll never get our family of 3 back and how special these moments are with just Amelia. I know once Barrett comes he'll fit into our family like the perfect little puzzle piece but right now, it's hard to see that big picture.

Wild One

A couple of weekends ago we were able to pack up the car and head to Lake Tobias, an exotic wildlife park. We knew we wanted to do this before Barrett came but we also had to plan it around Jason's work schedule and the weather. Thank goodness the day we went was a perfect fit for all of those things...I love taking the family on new adventures!
We knew that we wanted to do the walking tour through the park and we wanted to do the safari. We remembered from the last time that we took Amelia that the safari allowed you to get up close and personal with the animals and now that Amelia is older, we knew she'd love it. Daddy had fun showing Amelia all the animals along the way to the safari ride...Amelia was in heaven with all of them!

Once we were on the safari bus, Amelia was in heaven. She was bouncing, screaming and pointing at all the animals. Our safari bus wasn't that full so each adult was able to get their own seat which was perfect for Amelia because she could go to whatever side had the most interactive animals.

At one point, early on in the tour, we broke out the crackers and we started feeding the animals. Amelia liked to hold the crackers but she didn't like to actually feed the animals.

After the safari bus tour, we walked around to see the bears, the lions, the monkeys and a mixture of other animals. Amelia loved running to the different animal displays, making the noises of the different animals and watching all the other kids.
We had so much fun at the exotic zoo and being able to get so close to all the animals. Family adventures like this are so much fun, especially when Amelia is able to get involved and participate in the fun. We'll definitely be making another visit to Lake Tobias when her little brother is here!

Bump Updates: Week 35

How far along: 35 weeks on Sunday, August, 17th, 2013
How big is baby: The size of a honeydew melon
Weight gain/loss: I've gained a total of 20.2 pounds, as of August 16th. I'm staying right on track with gaining a pound a week. Next weigh-in is August 30th at my next appointment
Sleep: Sleep is great, when I can actually get comfortable and fall asleep. Amelia is working on getting in all 4 of her eye teeth so I've had a few nights that I've been up and down with her.
Diet/Cravings/Aversions: I'm snacking constantly and I've noticed that I am eating a crazy amount of ice throughout the day. I was recently introduced to a candy bar called "Take 5" and I'm in love. I have to indulge at least once/twice a week!
Movement: YES!  He's definitely an active little guy, especially when I sit down to watch TV or go to bed. He also gets the hiccups a couple times a day!
What I'm loving: My family, my growing belly and the fact that I've had such a good and healthy pregnancy.
What I'm looking forward to: Packing my hospital bag and getting the nursery 100% completed this week while Jason is home.
Best moment of the week: Having Jason home!  He's on vacation this week (started on Saturday) so he can get in some really good quality time with Amelia before he starts his rotation an hour and a half away next month.
How I'm feeling: Feeling really well for being 5 weeks away from my due date. I have my days where I'm exhausted and can barely make it in the door after a day at work but most days, I'm good. I'm moving around a lot slower and I waddle instead of walk but no real complaints.

Unforgettable Snapshots

Jason's on vacation all week so he's getting in some great Daddy/Daughter time with Amelia. They left for their morning walk this morning a little bit before I was ready to leave for work and I couldn't help but to go and find them in the neighborhood.
Amelia was walking Bazzle and was pushing her baby in the stroller. If you look closely you can see that she has Bazzle's leash looped on to the handle of her stroller.
I think the mile loop took them about an hour this morning because Amelia insisted that she needed to push her baby in the stroller around the whole block. Nannie was walking with the stroller just in case she got tired and needed to rest but I don't think that happened. Jason said she would stop occasionally to "check" on her baby, give her a kiss and ensure that her seatbelt was tight.
Goodness! Our little girl is so full of personality...good thing she's so adorable!

Mommy/Daughter Time

The weather for mid-August has been so off...what happened to our super hot and humid weather?!  No complaints here though because it has made this pregnancy more tolerable during these summer months.
This weekend the weather was mid-70s and rainy so we had a few indoor activities planned to keep us entertained since staying outside wasn't an option for the whole day.
Homemade play dough was first on the list for Sunday morning. I had a long night on Saturday and was having some contractions early Sunday, so we opted to stay home from church and just rest. The girls made the play dough (and Nannie documented with taking pictures). Please remember...it was before 9am, I'm 35 weeks pregnant and I wasn't dressed for pictures. Regardless, I'm glad that I had these pictures with my girl!

Amelia loved holding all the measuring cups while I would fill them with the flour, salt and oil and then she would dump them in the pot and stir the ingredients together.

After we cooked the play dough mixture, we had to knead it and get it to a good consistency before we added food coloring to it. Amelia wasn't hesitant to get her hands into the mess but she wasn't a fan of keeping the mess on her hands. She was constantly brushing her hands and getting little pieces of play dough EVERYWHERE.

Once the play dough was finished, Jason came over and was showing Amelia all kinds of crazy things to do with it. Her favorite accessory that he showed her was a mustache...

The homemade play dough was a success!  We now have a pretty good stash of play dough for our next rainy day, which could be any day this week.

Saturday Shenanigans

Saturday morning started off pretty busy because I had a work event later that evening and I had quite the to-do-list that needed to get accomplished.
Grocery shopping is an every other week thing in our house so most trips to the store are pretty big and require an extra set of hands to help with the cart. Good thing Amelia came to the store with us because I'm not sure Nannie and myself could have handled it.
How crazy is it that she's already wearing light weight jackets in the morning with pants?!
Once the day started though, it warmed up and we had to break out the summer clothes again. With our crop share, we got a little watermelon and I wanted to get it balled out so we could eat on it all weekend. I did most of it and then Amelia decided that she wanted to help out. I love these pictures!!  She was covered from head to toe in watermelon juice.

After some lunch and a quick nap, we headed down to the creek to get some firewood. We've been sitting around the fire pit at night and we needed to get some more wood. We couldn't walk down to the creek without throwing a few rocks in or going for a swim. Leave it up to my crazy child to walk right out in the cold creek and have the time of her life.
I rolled her pant legs up so she wouldn't get them wet, which lasted for a couple of minutes until she tripped on a rock and fully submerged her body in the water. I thought she would panic and freak out but she actually loved it and decided to kick, splash and swim around with Jason and Nannie.

I couldn't believe how much she enjoyed the creek...she definitely has my family's blood in her. My mom, aunts and grandparents could live at the creek and it appears that Amelia is following in their footsteps. I wish I would have gotten a picture on the way back to the house because Amelia got to wear her Daddy's shirt and she looked so cute!
After the creek, we had to get ready because I had a work event that evening. The organization I work for hosted a suite at the Senator's baseball game and we organized a time where we could invite local HR directors to come and learn more about the organization. When Jason heard about the unlimited food, drinks and the awesome seats, he decided that he needed to come and be supportive. HA
The event was a success and it was a great night away from Amelia...it was like a date night! The Senator's ended up winning 8-0 and the night ended with some amazing fireworks. We didn't get home until 11pm and I was dragging. I honestly don't remember how I got in from the car to my bed--this mama is used to being in bed by 8:30pm.
We had such a busy, fun, family-filled Saturday. I'm so thankful that we're getting in some great family time before Barrett comes. It's really starting to set in that Amelia will be the only child for a couple more weeks and then we'll have to divide our attention between the two kids. I want to enjoy this moment and not take weekends like this for granted.
